Growing up, one of my favorite things to do was read.  From flipping through the pages of If You Give A Cat A Cupcake to getting lost in a dystopian novel or series such as The Selection by Kiera Cass, I always found comfort, inspiration, and enjoyment in a good book.  I didn't love reading because it was just something to do but because it opened my eyes to the power of words. Regardless of whichever book I read, the author's words expanded my imagination, changed my perspective, and allowed me to learn about different topics. Through my love of reading, I decided my future career would be journalism.
 

 

One of my goals for my platform as a journalist is to shed light on injustices and expose problems in our society. As Journalist Ida B. Wells once said, "The way to right wrongs is to turn the light of truth upon them." Another goal is to use my skills to educate the public about different topics. Besides these two goals, I am always open to any opportunity that allows me to become a better journalist and increase my knowledge of the profession.
